Contact us

Email [your email]. We usually reply within [reply time, e.g. 2 working days].

It helps to mention whether you use the iPhone app or the website, your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings → General → About), and what you tapped. Please never send your password.

Getting started

  1. Open the Path tab and tap a task once you’ve done it.
  2. One task covers an area. Cover all 5 areas for a full day.
  3. Watch your brain turn white on the Brain tab. The Week tab shows your variety.

Accounts and sync

Do I need an account?

No. Balance works fully on one device without an account, and your data stays on that device. An account is optional: it syncs your tasks and settings between your devices and lets you send activity ideas.

How does sync work?

Sign in on each device with the same account. Changes reach your other devices within moments when you’re online; changes made offline sync once you’re back online.

The first time you sign in on a device, the tasks already on it are added to your account. Data that belongs to a different account is never mixed in.

My tasks don’t show up on my other device
Signing in with Apple or Google

Tap Continue with Apple or Continue with Google. In the iPhone app, the familiar system sign-in sheet opens; on the website, Apple’s or Google’s sign-in window opens.

If a sign-in method says it isn’t available right now, you can log in with email, or keep using Balance on your device in the meantime.

I forgot my password

On the log-in screen tap Forgot password?, enter your email and tap Send reset link. Follow the link in the email to choose a new password. Accounts that use Apple or Google sign-in have no separate Balance password.

What happens when I sign out?

Balance sends any last changes to your account, then clears your data from that device. Everything stays safe in your account, ready for the next time you sign in.

Your data

How do I delete my account?

Go to About → Account, tap Delete account, then tap again to confirm. This deletes your synced tasks, settings and the account itself right away. With Sign in with Apple, Apple asks you to confirm first.

Ideas you sent with Suggest an activity are kept separately for review. Just ask, and we’ll delete them too (see below).

The copy on the device you used stays, so you can keep going there. Remove it with Delete all entries (below) whenever you like.

How do I delete my data on this device?

Go to About → Your data, tap Delete all entries, then tap again. This removes all your completed tasks. When you’re signed in, they’re removed from your account and your other devices too.

To remove everything Balance saved on a device, including settings, delete the iPhone app, or clear this website’s data in your browser settings.

Can I keep a backup or move to a new device?

Yes. About → Your data → Export backup saves a file with your entries, hobbies and 45-day habit. On the new device, Import backup adds the entries from that file; it never deletes anything. With an account, simply sign in on the new device instead.

Can you delete the ideas I sent?

Of course. Email us from the address you use for Balance (or tell us roughly when you sent them) and we’ll delete them. See the privacy policy for everything we store.

Reminders and haptics

How do reminders work?

Go to About → Gentle reminders and turn on Reminders. Pick up to three times a day. Each reminder suggests one real-life action for the area that needs it most.

In the iPhone app, reminders arrive as notifications even when Balance is closed: tap Allow when iOS asks. On the website, the reminder appears as a card inside Balance the next time you open it.

Reminder notifications aren’t arriving
How do haptics work?

In the iPhone app: a light tap when you finish a task, a firmer tap when you cover a new area, and a happy double tap for a full day.

On the website: a gentle tap when you finish a task, a double tap when you cover a new area, and three taps for a full day.

In About → Haptics you can turn them on or off and tap Feel a test tap.

On iPhone, if you feel nothing, turn on Settings → Sounds & Haptics → System Haptics. On the website, haptics work in browsers with vibration support and in Safari on iOS 18 or later.

Using Balance

What do the five areas mean?

Dopamine for small steps toward something, Endorphins for laughing and moving for fun, Oxytocin for trust and people, Serotonin for pride and respect, and Calm for letting the brain’s alarm pass. Each area has three tasks; doing any one of them covers it.

Can I pick different tasks?

Yes. On the Path tab, tap Swap next to an area’s name and choose from the curated actions for that area. Add up to five of your own hobbies under Dopamine’s Do your hobby.

Why does my brain get spots?

It’s a playful nudge. Your brain stays fresh for 12 hours after your last completed task, then slowly gets spots, cracks and flies. Complete any task and it’s fresh again.

How do I suggest an activity?

Sign in, then open About → Suggest an activity. You can send up to 5 ideas a day, and a person reviews every idea before it could ever appear in the app.

The website shows “Balance could not start”

Tap Try again. If that doesn’t help, tap Reset app, or open the address with ?reset at the end. This refreshes the offline copy of the app; your data stays.

Is Balance medical advice?

No. Balance is a playful model inspired by ideas about brain chemistry. It does not measure real hormones or neurotransmitters, and it is not medical, psychological, or health advice. If you’re struggling, please talk to a qualified professional.
